Ed Law Committee Presentation .png

SLC Attorney Simone Chriss attended The Florida Bar Winter Meeting in Orlando last week where she presented to The Florida Bar's Education Law Committee, which is made up of K-12 school district attorneys, higher ed counsel, charter school counsel, and private attorneys specializing in education law. Chriss trained the committee on transgender cultural competency, as well as how to meet the unique needs of transgender youth in education settings so that they can achieve their full potential. She discussed the protections provided by Title IX, the Equal Protection Clause, FERPA, the IDEA, and Section 504, and provided sample model policies regarding access to bathrooms and gendered facilities, use of correct name and pronoun, access to extracurriculars and athletics, privacy of information, and more.
