Kirsten Clanton
Ms. Clanton joined Southern Legal Counsel in 2007 as a staff attorney. Prior to SLC, she worked as an associate at a private law firm specializing in immigration and nationality law. She has volunteered with the Florida Democratic Lawyers' Counsel and served as co-lead attorney for Alachua County during the 2006 mid-term elections as part of a statewide election protection effort.
Ms. Clanton became a member of The Florida Bar in October 2005. She received her J.D. with honors (2005); M.A. in Latin American Studies (2005) ; and B.A. in Spanish (2001), all from the University of Florida. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies. While in law school, she served as the Executive Research Editor for the Florida Journal of International Law for two semesters. She interned at the Carter Center, a non-profit organization headed by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, where she worked in the Americas Program and served as a member of the Center’s election-monitoring mission to Venezuela in August 2004. She is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese, which she learned while studying in Brazil on a fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education.
