Southern Legal Counsel (SLC) expanded its Pro Bono Program in 2019 with the assistance of a Florida Bar Foundation Transformation Grant. Building on SLC's 40+ year legacy of helping individuals who cannot readily access the justice system, the Pro Bono Program utilizes volunteers to provide much needed additional representation, advocacy, and assistance to Floridians in need.

Utilizing a hybrid-model, the Pro Bono Program has a focused eye towards recruiting pro bono co-counsel to work with SLC on high-impact, systems-changing litigation while also recruiting volunteers for traditional individual representation matters. Additional volunteer opportunities include limited scope representation, brief counsel/advice, advocacy, legal research, and limited scope impact litigation assistance.

SLC regularly houses law clerks and undergraduate interns throughout the year, with 5-10 spots available each semester. Schedules and tasks will vary, but all work is non-clerical and substantive. Students are asked to commit to at least 10 hours per week, working in our office in Gainesville. FL. Remote work may be available for students not located in/near Gainesville.

Attorneys interested in volunteering with Southern Legal Counsel should complete our Registration Form. Law students and undergraduates interested in working with SLC can find more information about our student programs here
